TTTHE OLD FIRST WARD

It seems  like such a long time ago  Since we roamed around the neighborhood
Our thoughts and cares  were different then, but we tried everything we could
We'd spend a lot of time up on the dell, it never  mattered how  cold it was
Drinkin' Miller splits or Genny Cream and playin' a drinking game we called buzz
We had great times with what had we were far from being bored
'Cause there was always something going on in the place they called
The Old First Ward  We had great times in The Old First Ward

Timmy* was the first to buy a car, when we cruised the streets we felt like kings
Wheels at that age would impress the girls we thought we could do anything
Any weekend was good for a party listening to Boston or Bad Company
Sooner or later a fight'd break out couldn't tell a friend from an enemy
We had great times with what we had we were far from being bored
Cause there was something always going on in the place they called
The Old First Ward  We had great times in The Old First Ward

Bill's Corner was a big hangout,  didn't take much to get thrown out
There was Fritter, Mike,  and Joey G, Bruce Bogie and Michael Z
There were Taverns on every street, at 17 we must have hit them all
Genie's, Sammy's, and Kennedy's and a few that I can't recall
We had great times with what we had we were far from being bored
Cause there was something always going on in the place they called
The Old First Ward  We had great times in The Old First Ward

I see my old friends at the Shamrock Run we get together same time every year
Drinking and singing like we were young the only difference is the brand of beer
I'm gettin' older every single day I've got a wife and a familly
Still see a fight every now and then but this time it won't include me
I still go down there to have some fun I don't complain that I'm too bored
'Cause there's something always going on in the place they call
The Old First Ward Still havin' fun in The Old First Ward
Still havin' good times in The Old First Ward

* There seems to be a disagreement between Fritter and Timmy on who was the
first one to ride around the Ward in their own car.  I'm not sure if Fritter ever let me
drive his when I was 16 but I know Tim did, so I'm going to record Timmy on the CD.  Fritter of course still gets a shout out in the verses.  I wish I could have fit everyone in the song but it would have gone on longer than a Free Bird Solo.

THE HOCKEY SONG

I got up one November morning I didn't know where I was
Couldn't get my eyes to focus my brain was full of fuzz
That's when I heard that little voice before I got in the shower
"Dad I've got hockey practice, we're on the ice in half an hour

Why did I let my kid play hockey  I must have been quite insane
I sacrafice my time and sleep is it for money and for fame?
Oh why did I let my kid play hockey it's just a cryin' shame
Oh yeah I just remembered it's my love for the game

Got my little boy suited up in fifteen minutes flat
He said "dad, I haven't had breakfast yet" I'm thinkin' "my what a little brat"
I stuffed a Pop Tart in his mouth and threw him in my FORD
It was 25 degrees farenheight I'm thinkin' "what am I doing LORD?

Why did I let my kid play hockey....................

(talking) Come on kid open up that bag and get your helmet on
Good God boy, what's in that thing? A dead cat!
Now get your gloves on and grab your stick
Don't forget to take off those skate guards, remember what happened last time

Now my little boy's on the ice I've got a large coffee in my hands
When did he learn to skate like that he doesn't move like that on dry land
Maybe some day he'll make it big then again maybe not
It doesn't really matter much to me while I watch him give it all he's got

Why did I let my kid play hockey...........................
